Eight to twelve weeks of restricted activity after a cruciate repair is where owners look for anything that helps. Here is what they use, and the one rule: the surgeon knows.

## First, your vet

The surgeon’s discharge plan: rest, controlled leash walks, the recheck radiographs. A peptide protocol is added to that plan, with the surgeon told, not slipped in beside it.

## What owners use

The Post-Op Recovery bundle: REPAIR for the soft tissue around the repair, with VITAL for the dog losing condition on crate rest. Start when the incision has healed, run eight weeks, dose by band.

## What the research is

The 2003 rat Achilles tendon study and the 2011 tendon fibroblast work are the reason BPC-157 is used around orthopedic surgery. No study has been done in dogs after CCL repair.

## Questions

### Will it speed up the bone healing after TPLO?

The research is on tendon, ligament and muscle, not bone. Nobody has shown faster osteotomy healing with any peptide, and the recheck radiographs are what tell you the bone is healed.

### Both knees?

About half of dogs eventually tear the other side. Owners often continue REPAIR as maintenance cycles after recovery; ask your surgeon.
